Black Orchid's main ability is as a mastery of disguise. She often spends an entire investigation impersonating an insignificant background female. Others only discover her upon finding the bound woman she impersonated, her abandoned disguise with her calling card, a black orchid. The creators imagined her in a world without other superheroes, and she combined the abilities of Superman with the detective work of Batman.
