The Spirit is the signature creation of comics pioneer Will Eisner. Ostensibly the adventures of a presumed-dead, masked crimefighter Denny Colt, The Spirit offered mystery, action, drama, romance, and humor in compact, eight-page vignettes that Eisner produced weekly from 1940 to 1952 as a supplement to Sunday newspapers. Eisner’s genius for graphic storytelling, heavy atmosphere, characterization, and razor wit made The Spirit a timeless classic that has thrilled and inspired generations of comic readers.
